Home / ChatGPT for WordPress
WP Content Writer Pro connects WordPress to the AI provider you choose — OpenAI among five — using an API key you supply. Your content goes from your site to that provider directly.
A ChatGPT subscription is not API access. They are separate OpenAI products, billed separately. Paying for ChatGPT Plus, Pro or Team does not give you an API key, and an API key is what a WordPress plugin needs in order to call a model on your behalf.
To use OpenAI models here you need a key from platform.openai.com with credit on the account. The same separation applies to Anthropic: a Claude subscription does not include Anthropic API access.
If adding a second AI bill is the sticking point, it does not have to be OpenAI — see below.

A funded API account, billed by usage. No free tier, and separate from any Claude subscription.
Has a free tier. Worth reading Google's terms first: on the free tier Google may use what you send to improve its products. Their paid tier does not.
NVIDIA NIM gives free credits, which NVIDIA describes as being for development. OpenRouter has free models, which OpenRouter says carry low daily limits and are usually not suitable for production use.
Encrypted in your own WordPress database, never rendered back into a form field, and never sent to us. You can also define it in wp-config.php instead, and the settings screen tells you the constant name.
Directly, from your server. We do not proxy it, so there is no copy of your drafts on our infrastructure.
Each provider decides whether it retains or trains on what you send, and the free tiers often differ from the paid ones. Their policies are authoritative; ours cannot speak for them.
Never in a query string, which gets copied into every access and proxy log it passes through.
Each provider's model list is fetched from that provider once a day, so the dropdown shows what your account can actually use — including models released since the last plugin update.
When a provider retires a model you are using, it is replaced with the closest match from the same provider and you are emailed. If nothing is close enough, nothing changes and the email says so. Your provider is never switched for you: that is a key, a bill and a contract, not a detail to swap because a model moved.
No, and this catches people out. A ChatGPT subscription and OpenAI API access are separate products with separate billing. The plugin calls the API, so you need an API key from platform.openai.com with credit on it. The same is true of a Claude subscription and the Anthropic API.

No. Five providers sit behind one interface — Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Gemini, NVIDIA NIM and OpenRouter — and you can switch or set a fallback order. If you would rather not add a paid AI account at all, three of them have free access.
No. The call goes from your WordPress site to the provider you chose, using your key. We never see the key and never see the content. What that provider then does with it is governed by their terms, not ours.

Paste a key, press Test, and the plugin tells you whether it worked before you rely on it.
