Home / ChatGPT vs WPCWP

ChatGPT writes the words. The other nine steps are yours.

ChatGPT is a good writer and a bad publishing pipeline. That is not a criticism of the model — it was never meant to run your editorial calendar. The gap between a good paragraph and a published post is where the work actually lives.

Side by side

The same article, both ways

Ten steps either way. The difference is how many of them you perform by hand, and how many tabs you have open while you do.

ChatGPT

  1. Open ChatGPT in another tab. Leave the editor you were working in.
  2. Write the prompt. And rewrite it, because the first answer was generic.
  3. Generate. Read it. Decide whether the facts are real.
  4. Copy the output. Lose the heading structure on the way out.
  5. Paste into WordPress. Rebuild the headings as blocks.
  6. Format it. Lists, tables, bold, the lot.
  7. Write the metadata. SEO title, meta description, slug, focus keyword.
  8. Find an image. Search, licence-check, download, upload, set as featured.
  9. Check the facts. Open the sources one at a time.
  10. Publish. Then do the same thing again tomorrow.

Every step is yours, and none of it is recorded anywhere.

WPCWP

  1. Add the topic. Or import a list, one per line.
  2. Research. Against your business profile, not a generic subject.
  3. Outline. Headings you can see before the body is written.
  4. Generate. Two passes: metadata first, then the long-form body.
  5. Fact-check. Optionally on a second provider, so one model is not grading itself.
  6. SEO. Written straight into Yoast, Rank Math or All in One SEO.
  7. Image. Sourced or generated, sideloaded, set as featured, licence recorded.
  8. Internal links. From your own categories, tags and keywords.
  9. Draft. Draft is the default status. Nothing is published.
  10. Review and publish. The one step that was always yours.

All of it inside WordPress, with tokens and cost logged against the article.

What this comparison is not

It is not a claim that our prose is better. We call the same models you do — if you point the plugin at OpenAI, the sentences come from OpenAI. Comparing writing quality would be comparing a provider against itself.

It is not a claim that you should stop using ChatGPT. For a one-off page, a tricky paragraph or thinking out loud, a chat window is the right tool and a plugin is overkill.

And if you publish occasionally, a chat subscription is cheaper than a licence plus API usage. The per-site licence starts paying off when volume is the constraint and the copy-paste loop is what is actually costing you.

Your ChatGPT subscription is not an API key

This is the thing that catches most people out. A ChatGPT Plus or Team subscription and an OpenAI API key are separate products on separate bills. The plugin needs the key, and paying for the subscription does not provide one.

The same is true of a Claude subscription against an Anthropic API key. How provider keys and billing work covers each of the five in detail, including which have a free tier.

What stays yours either way

Articles are ordinary WordPress posts in your own database. No shortcodes, no front-end scripts, nothing that stops rendering if the plugin is deactivated. The provider key stays in your own site and can be defined in wp-config.php rather than stored in the database at all.

Nothing publishes on its own unless you turn that on, and every change an agent makes is recorded before it happens so it can be put back. Trust, safety and human control sets out where the person sits in each flow.
